In the current markets for mobile phone, optical and medical devices production, the demand increases for production equipment with high accuracy and quality in the assembly processes. Frequently used manual production methods can no longer guarantee these quality demands and reliability. Products in these markets need to be produced in a clean environment and in very high volumes.

In order to meet these demands, WWINN member IMS developed the ProMu assembly platform. The ProMu is a generic platform for highly accurate, fully automated assembly of small products in a clean environment. Examples of small products are components of mobile phones and implantable medical devices. Through the integration of standard and customized assembly processes and modules onto one platform, the ProMu facilitates more efficient production. Next to that, its modular build makes it possible to change fast in product variants or new product types. The platform has a relatively small footprint compared to existing assembly systems; valuable clean room space is thereby limitedly used. The ProMu’s capacity can grow with the customer’s increasing demand. The platform is easily extended to two or more connected platforms including modules in which the clean room environment and the high product quality remain intact.

Key characteristics of this product are the high re-usability rate due to modular setup, flexible, programmable supply units with vision control and precise positioning and quick setup of product variants and new product types. The cycle time is typical 1.5 - 5 sec, the assembly accuracy < 10 μ and the axis accuracy typical: 4 μ, optional: up to 0.5 μ.
