New high-performance surfactant dedicated to microdroplet generation

Nov 15, 2018
Surfactants are an essential part of the droplet-based microfluidic technology. Therefore, FLUIGENT has now launched another product that will make the experiments easier: dSURF - Quality Fluorosurfactant. Droplet generation reproducibility and stability are two pivotally important parameters for successful applications. Provided at 2% in 3M Novec 7500 fluorinated oil, dSURF allows high performance droplet formation and long-term stability even in challenging conditions such as dPCR and cell culture experiments.

When using droplets for cell analysis, both sample cross-talk and dispersion should be minimized for greater accuracy and minimal reagent loss. dOIL (Novec fluorinated oil) offers a low drop-to-drop transfer of organic compounds, while maintaining high gas solubility and permeability which have a major impact on cell survival or analytical reaction efficiency. “dSURF improved our droplet stability and reliability of droplet formation under control of FLUIGENT systems. We performed good quality digital-PCR and droplet-based micro-cultivation of microbials”, said Dr. Thomas Henkel, the Head of Microfluidic group from Leibniz IPHT.
