PPWR in Practice – From Packaging to Documentation

The new EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) raises numerous practical questions for companies: What requirements apply to their own packaging? What role does the company play? What data and supporting documentation are required—and when are technical documentation and an EU Declaration of Conformity necessary?

Reduce the implementation effort within your company using the ready-to-use templates, checklists, and guidance materials provided. The “PPWR in Practice” training course offers precisely tailored support. Instead of addressing the PPWR article by article, the course uses a comprehensive real-world case study to demonstrate, step by step, how companies can move from their specific packaging situation to the required compliance and supporting documentation.

The focus is on a structured implementation process:

Packaging → Role → Requirements → Data & Supporting Documentation → Assessment → Documentation

Learning Objectives of the Training Course

Participants will learn to,

  • systematically classify packaging and packaging components,
  • determine their own role and the resulting PPWR obligations,
  • classify relevant requirements, including those related to substance restrictions, recyclability, recycled content, packaging minimization, reusability, and labeling,
  • review existing data and evidence for PPWR readiness and identify information gaps,
  • obtain and organize the necessary information internally and throughout the supply chain,
  • consolidate requirements, data, and evidence into a structured conformity assessment,
  • classify technical documentation and the EU Declaration of Conformity (DoC), and
  • keep PPWR documentation up to date in the event of changes.

Particular emphasis is placed on the different documentation pathways depending on the company’s role: While producers prepare conformity assessments, technical documentation, and EU Declarations of Conformity for their packaging, other roles focus primarily on reviewing the required documents and ensuring traceable evidence management.

Practical – with concrete tools

A consistent real-world case study serves as the central theme of the three-hour online training session. Short interactive polls and decision-making scenarios help participants apply the PPWR requirements to typical workplace scenarios.

Participants will subsequently receive a comprehensive digital PPWR package containing nearly 20 templates, checklists, samples, and resources—including those for conducting an inventory and documentation review, data collection, supplier communication, evidence management, technical documentation, and the EU Declaration of Conformity.

In addition, a practical PPWR guideline is provided. It documents the implementation process covered in the training and supplements it with practical tips and references to the appropriate working aids.

Who is this training program intended for?

This training program is intended for specialists and managers involved in the practical implementation of the PPWR—particularly those in quality management and compliance, procurement and supplier management, product development, production, sustainability and environmental management, and packaging management.
