From intelligent sensor systems and integrated photonics to advanced materials and scalable manufacturing: the IVAM Hightech Summit 2026 demonstrated how engineering disciplines are driving the next generation of Life Sciences.
Focusing on "Inside Life – Engineering our Future", the two-day conference brought together representatives from industry, research, and innovation organizations at the CORPUS Congress Center in Leiden. The unique venue, which takes visitors on a journey through the human body, provided the perfect setting for discussions on technologies that are transforming biology, medicine, and diagnostics. More than 35 speakers from across Europe shared their expertise in six conference sessions covering micro- and nanotechnology, photonics, quantum technologies, smart sensors, advanced materials, manufacturing, regulation, industrialization, and intellectual property.
Around 30 Business Partners supported the summit, many of them showcasing their latest technologies in the Technical Exhibition and the interactive Hands-on Session "Life Science Applications", creating numerous opportunities for direct exchange between technology providers, researchers, and industry.

The conference featured an outstanding lineup of keynote speakers, each offering a different perspective on the technologies and innovation strategies shaping the future of Life Sciences. The summit opened with a keynote by Jan Keller, former Executive Vice President of ASML and founder of Best Knowledge Matters. He encouraged participants to strengthen Europe's position as a global high-tech innovation leader by building on technological excellence, entrepreneurial courage, and stronger European cooperation. Eva van Pelt, President of the German-Dutch Chamber of Commerce and member of the supervisory boards of QIAGEN and PAUL HARTMANN AG, highlighted the importance of cross-border collaboration and strong innovation ecosystems for Europe's competitiveness. Dr. René Fassbender of OmegaLambdaTec GmbH demonstrated how artificial intelligence can optimize highly complex systems and accelerate innovation processes. The closing keynote by Dr. Ying Ting Set of imec illustrated how advanced engineering enables the tools that transform hidden biology into data for next-generation AI foundation models, highlighting the growing convergence of engineering, biology, and artificial intelligence.
Beyond the keynote presentations, the six conference sessions reflected the broad technological spectrum of today's Life Sciences innovation landscape. Topics ranged from engineering technologies for biology, medicine, and diagnostics to photonics, quantum technologies, smart sensors, data-driven insights, advanced materials, scalable manufacturing, and successful industrialization. Together, the sessions demonstrated that future healthcare innovations will increasingly emerge at the intersection of multiple enabling technologies. Another central element of the summit was the strong participation of industry. The Technical Exhibition and the interactive Hands-on Session "Life Science Applications" allowed participants to experience cutting-edge technologies firsthand and exchange ideas directly with developers and application experts. From microfluidics and precision optics to advanced materials, smart sensors, laser technologies, manufacturing solutions, and medical technologies, the exhibition showcased the diversity and strength of Europe's high-tech ecosystem.
Networking remained a defining characteristic of the event. Informal networking continued throughout the summit during coffee breaks, the networking dinner, the guided tour through CORPUS, and countless conversations in the exhibition area, creating valuable opportunities for new partnerships, technology transfer, and future business collaborations. The IVAM Hightech Summit once again demonstrated its role as one of Europe's leading networking platforms for enabling technologies. By connecting researchers, technology providers, manufacturers, start-ups, investors, and end users, the event fosters the interdisciplinary collaboration needed to bring tomorrow's Life Science innovations from the laboratory into industrial and medical practice.
Following the successful 2026 edition in Leiden, the next IVAM Hightech Summit will take place in Berlin on June 17–18, 2027, where the European high-tech community will once again come together to shape the future of enabling technologies.
