New value chains for natural polymers and alternative raw materials

he ZIM Innovation Network "Poly4Nature - Alternative Raw Materials and Natural Polymers" has successfully launched its second phase. Supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) as part of the Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM), the network aims to utilize new and alternative raw material sources for the production of natural polymers. The goal is to create new value chains and position Germany as an OEM supplier of natural materials.

Kick-Off and Network Activities

After successfully completing Phase 1, the network has transitioned into the 24-month Phase 2. It includes 35 partners, consisting of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), research institutions, and large companies. The kick-off meeting took place on May 15, 2024. The focus is on further developing the technological roadmap from Phase 1 and implementing research and development (R&D) projects on alternative materials and natural polymers.

Focus on Research and Development Projects

Additionally, based on the technological potentials of the current network consortium, further R&D projects will be developed. The goal of all R&D projects is to develop concrete products and processes. Initial working groups have already formed and will soon begin their work. Phase 2 runs from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2026.
