On May 25, 2016, Prof. Dr. Thomas Gessner, professor of microtechnology, Director of the Center for Microtechnology at University Chemnitz and Head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nano Systems ENAS, died at the age of 61 years, suddenly and unexpectedly.

Since 2005, Thomas Gessner was an active member of the IVAM Microtechnology Network as representative for his institutes. As member of the advisory board, he supported IVAM since 2008 with his advice and assistance. In particular his achievements in the field of microsystems technology, which have been acknowledged by awards and memberships in prestigious organizations and advisory committees, as well as his international experience, especially in Japan, China and Brazil, made him an important and valuable advisor for IVAM.

"Also on a personal level Thomas Gessner had become a trusted friend. Even apart from business topics, you could always have a trustful and honest conversation with him. Thomas Gessner will be missed. IVAM mourns with his family and with his colleagues at the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nano Systems ENAS and Chemnitz University," says Dr. Thomas Dietrich, CEO of IVAM on behalf of the IVAM Board, the IVAM Advisory Council and the IVAM team.
