From August 18 to 22, IVAM organizes the Microtechnology Summer School for the third time in Dortmund, Germany. Companies from the MEMS industry present themselves and their activities to about 35 students of engineering and natural sciences.

Facing a shortage of qualified employees, small and medium-sized enterprises can avoid expensive advertisements and instead gain their future employees’ interest by presenting their companies’ activities, products and philosophy. The presenters of the Summer School come from universities and research institutions, most of them, however, are industry representatives. They will speak about microtechnology basics, practical procedures and applications.

The attraction of the industry’s major players is a hurdle for small and medium-sized enterprises trying to recruit workforce. But especially smaller companies outperform the apparently more attractive large enterprises in the fields of communication, integration of the employees and promotion prospects. In addition, they win in respect to interesting job definitions and by handing over responsibility at an early stage of the career.

The enterprises get the chance of drawing these trump cards in discussions, presentations and poster sessions: for the first time, a “speed recruiting” is organized, where human resources managers will be able to meet the students in one-on-one interviews. A get-together in the evening and a poster session offer more opportunities to socialize. Information on how to take part as a company or as a student is available from Florence Bukow and on www.mikrotechnik-summerschool.de. The event will be held in German language.
