With InfiniteFocus, the Alicona Imaging GmbH provides a high-resolution measurement system that delivers information about measurement uncertainty with each measurement value. This is how Alicona, global supplier of high-resolution optical 3D measurement systems, meets an increasing need in industrial quality assurance. „A measurement result without any information about the measurement uncertainty is useless” states Dr. Neuschaefer-Rube, expert in the field of coordinate metrology from the German metrology institute PTB.

InfiniteFocus is used to measure form and roughness of geometries in research and production. The optical 3D micro-coordinate system is based on the technology of focus-variation. The EN ISO certified technology provides, with each measurement, information about of the repeatability of every single 3D point. This allows an estimated measurement uncertainty with every measurement value and enables users to better understand the quality of measurements and to obtain detailed results in a more efficient way. This additional information can be a crucial parameter to evaluate the conformity of components on a numerical basis.

According to Alicona there is no other optical measurement technique at this time that automatically delivers information to verify the quality of a measurement value as it is achieved by focus-variation. The areal-based technology, included in the latest EN ISO standard 25178, is the key technology of all Alicona solutions for form and roughness measurement in research and production.
